Mathematics-Amplitude


Amplitude is the feature of periodic curve, like the sine or cosine curves. The amplitide of the sine curve is the greatest distance of a point on the curve from the x-axis, and is indicated by 'a' in the below figure.

For sine curve y = sinx, amplitude a = 1
       cosine curve y = 2cosx, amplitude a = 2



It is the objective measurement of the degree of change in atmospheric pressure. The degree of change is in positive or negative. That is mainly caused by the sound waves.

Amplitude is directly proportional to intensity of sound.
